Current Trends in Nursing

                        Discussion 1

Many health practitioners are seeking the accelerated nursing programs (ABSN) to attain their goals of becoming nurse within a short period. With dedication and handwork, it's easier to complete the nursing degree in only one year and half months. ABSN programs do not require health care experience or a previous degree. The only basic qualification ABSC degree in pursuing is 54 college credits.

ABSN program can be pursued online thereby providing flexibility to learners. The availability of an e-Learning platform helps learners in understanding the most important concepts in nursing.  Research indicates that ABSN program incorporates simulations, in-hospital rotations and collaborative learning skills.  The skills obtained from the lab assists a nurse in applying the knowledge in real hospital equipment.  These skills may also be applicable when practicing on real patients especially in clinical rotations (ABSN, 2017).

Enrolling into ABSN program provides one with a strong foundation in achieving a strong academic performance (Global Pre-Meds, 2015).  It also helps a nurse in clinically preparing for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX).  Research shows that ABSN program has a high retention rate due to the xix-point mastery learning model.  Unlike other traditional nursing programs, ABSN program helps in fostering collaboration in nursing programs through a block curriculum.

The process of building a career is difficult; the healthcare industry is expanding significantly and therefore requires registered and other professionals (Millett, Stickler & Wang, 2015).  Although the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is a high paying career, most graduates are choosing to become a registered nurse (RN), or entering into a master program to become a Nurse Practitioner (NP). This will enable the graduates earn their degree and enter the workforce more quickly.
